going to the dogs
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!
I sure did. I took off Friday as well and played all weekend long–with P, with the pooches, with the blog (notice the slightly different look? Feedreader peeps come on over!) and with some social networking sites. Ooh and I also read lots of Paulo Coelho. Love him!
Anyway, last week I asked you to ask me some questions, and once again, you’ve come up with some great ones, particularly about my feelings about settling here. I’m working on the answers to those too, but today I’m addressing the question of Jen of a2eatwrite:
What do your DOGS like best about living in Italy?
For those who don’t know Luna and Stella, you might want to check out their memes. Yes, my dogs do memes:
Now the girls have talked it over, and they’ve decided that the best part of living in Italy is definitely hanging out with their PapΓ in the garden. What’s that? You want photographic evidence?
The girls love the open space in the garden where they can play:
And dig:
And chase things:
And drink from the hose, sort of (they’re afraid of it on its own):
And generally nose around the place:
But sometimes they just like to sit and look pretty:
And finally, after a hard afternoon’s play, it’s time to rest:
And just hang out with PapΓ .
See lots more photos of my babies in my Luna & Stella Flickr set!
So animal caretakers,
what do your little one(s) like best about where they live?
And how did you enjoy the weekend?
The dogs did a good job blogging! I always thought that they were a bit smaller. Great story.
Their size seems to deceive people in photos; my mom thought they were bigger until she met them….
I like the 6th picture down – is that Luna? And I love your new “About The Author” picture.
Weekend was good – spent it doing nothing but relaxing and reading in the Chicago area. My favorite thing to do.
Salena’s last blog post..All American Eddie Friday
You know my dogs better than most of the people in the village! Yes that’s Luna π
Sounds like we had similar weekends, many miles apart. Lovely!
It looks like they’ve also got some lovely shade. I bet they appreciate that in this heat!
Who’s the bunny…?
casalba’s last blog post..The Fig Tree
Our garden, while not good for tomatoes and other plants that love sun, is great in the late afternoon for people and doggies π
P raises rabbits; I’ve written about them somewhere in the archives I’m sure!
I like your new profile picture as well.
Your garden reminds me of my parents’ place. I miss them and it so much.
I had a great weekend. Good for you taking Friday off. Maybe you can do that for the rest of the summer?

Now *that* is a fabulous idea. I’m going to try to work toward that again this week…great suggestion!
And see, you do miss something other than people π
Cute dogs. Did you have any problem bringing dogs into a new country?
Grace’s last blog post..My Tomatoes
Thanks Grace; actually these are Italian born and bred, so I don’t know much about bringing in pets.
My little guy is away at camp so my big guy took me out for dinnner!
Joanne at frutto della passione’s last blog post..Inspired by β¦ oops, I might not be able to say that
Ooh that’s fun!
To be a dog. That is the way to spend the summer. A pleasant stroll, a sleep in the sun, a rub on the tummy. Not a bad way to live.
running42k’s last blog post..Half way through
Agreed π
I actually spent part of Friday with a new dogfriend… the goofiest, slobberiest, let-me-climb-in-your-lappiest pit bull I have ever met – named, of course, Romeo. His interests are attention, food that falls off the table and chewing on my friend’s daughter’s toys.
I had a pound dog when I lived in Hawai’i, but he disappeared right around the time of my divorce. I have ALWAYS been a dog guy and kind of forgot how canine-deprived I have been…
paul of crazy like whoa’s last blog post..Soaring
Ooh perhaps you’ll be a doggie caretaker soon? Romeo sounds precious. I’m thinking he might could use a Juliet π
Look at Luna and Stella… they’re smiling!! Isn’t it great how expressive dogs can be? I love dogs.
Love that sidebar π
Roam2Rome’s last blog post..BlogHer Blues
They *do* smile, don’t they? I never get sick of seeing them happy π
And thanks for the compliment π
My little one, Henry (whom we rescued from a shelter when he was left on a highway!), lives and breathes for his daily walk by the river in front of our house. I can’t even change my pair of shoes without him coming to inquire if this is, in fact, time for our promenade.
Your pictures of Stella and Luna are just wonderful. I can see why you are all so close.
Bellezza’s last blog post..An Evening of Musical Inspiration From Japan
Hee hee…they’re so smart, aren’t they? I can’t even get near their harnesses and leash without lots of inquiring looks π
Aww, Stella and the bunny. I won’t think about what happens later. Stella and Luna are both so pretty, and they really look like sisters. Is there any rivalry between the two?
flurrious’s last blog post..I Told My Cat I Admire Her, Yet She Continues to be Aloof
These particular bunnies will be strictly for breeding; their babies, though…well….
Luna and Stella have a friendly rivalry, I’d say. Sometimes when we’re petting one, the other one gets a bit jealous, but it’s never anything hostile thank goodness.
ooooooh. that sounds like SUCH a lovely weekend. Wow.
Definitely one of the best weekends I’ve had in a long while. Hoping for another this weekend π
I love your dogs. Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a wonderful weekend.
Minnie’s last blog post..He’s A Little Bit Country
And they love you Minnie!
I have a turtle named Squishy! I don’t know what she likes best, although she likes to sun herself! She’ll stretch out on her rock and her neck i s stretched out and she looks like she is pulling her body out of her shell.
On another note, my weekend was quiet! I was very lazy and read Harlequin Romance books…lol
lucy’s last blog post..Sarnia – My Beautiful Visit
Sounds like a great weekend to me! I love when turtles sun themselves all stretched out. Too cute!
Ps. I noticed your new picture, very nice!
lucy’s last blog post..Sarnia – My Beautiful Visit
Thanks Lucy π
Hm, what do my cats like best? Terrorizing the house at night and knocking things over, I think. Then looking all innocent in the morning. “Who ME??”
We did not a lot of anything this weekend. My favorite way to spend a weekend! Well, there was the martini incident on Friday night that made for a slow start on Saturday…
kacey’s last blog post..Childhood Memories
Sounds fabulous! And I think I may have had a cat related to yours….
They are so cute! Great look for your blog too!

Grazie bella π
i love any and all your posts about your girls!!!! i was reading Stella’s meme and got to the part about her “not playing nice with other bitches :)”
Saci is the same way. she wants to attack any new dog at first glance. but after a SUPERVISED introduction she’s perfectly behaved…..even spends most of the time running away from dogs much smaller than her.
we’re in need of the dog whisperer!
Eryn’s last blog post..Down Home Texas BBQ
Hee hee…Stella is actually much better now than she was when she did the meme almost a year ago. Luna is really less friendly to other dogs than Stella but they’re both always on leashes so that helps π
I always love that happy, tuckered out, doggie look! Stella and Luna have it π
Maddie loves playing with her Daddy too…it’s funny, when he is around, I am just a nobody!!
And this weekend…we saw *Dark Knight*!!!!!
Awesome, totally fantastic!!!!!! You MUST see it!!
My MΓ©lange’s last blog post..Clafoutis
It’ll be a while before I see it, but I probably will someday. I’m not really into the whole Batman/Spiderman/superhero thing I’m afraid. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen an entire Batman movie….
Oh…my kitty gets the run of the house. She doesn’t abuse it though, no jumping on countertops (at least when I’m there) and there are a lot of cushy comfy places for her to rest her weary bones…
sadira’s last blog post..Buckets Of Pesto…
What a good kitty! And now or those buckets of pesto…mmm….
Oreo my cat has various places she likes to nap throughout the day. I swear when I’m home on a weekday instead of at work she’s tweaked because her routine is interrupted. Her favorite spot is on the back of the couch looking out the window at the world and the birdies.
Her picture is posted here.
My weekend was relaxing, had lunch with a friend, church, a little house cleaning, grocery shopping, reading. Wish it was longer.
I like your updated photo too!
Ice Tea For Me’s last blog post..making a difference
Thanks Linda (on the photo). But how dare you interrupt the baby’s routine?! Too funny π
I love your dogs.
by the way, I just tagged you for an award. There’s no obligation to play along but I wanted to share your blog with my friends. Stop by my blog to check it out. π
judy haley (coffeejitters)’s last blog post..Arte y Pico Award
Thanks Judy π Will be over shortly!
My little Germen Shepherd (Alsatian) likes to dig a hole in the middle of a little patch of trees in our garden…. ’cause then NO ONE can see her….
My little Pyreneen Mastiff likes to lay her head on my lap while I type.
They’re moving soon, but they don’t know it yet… It will be traumatic!
Cute photos!
katie’s last blog post..Chickpea Patties; For Sher
Thanks, and I hope the move goes well. I just love hearing about the little quirks of each animal…such personality!
how freakin’ awesome. i wish my Geisha were more playful. I’m probably to blame in part. She stays in way too much. Plus I don’t have a yard!
you make me want to visit Italia so bad… it’s been way too long.
Bren@Flanboyant Eats’s last blog post..Taste of T & T Deserves 1 More Story
Dogs’ personalities are so different though. Luna doesn’t play nearly as much as Stella, for instance, but Stella definitely eggs her on and gets her going. So cute to see!
And yes, come to Italy! Soon π
What a fun, relaxing, wonderful weekend.
And, what a great garden to play in!!

Was truly fabulous Scarlett π
Your dogs look so happy! I love Paulo Coelho, too. I put his quote “the universe always conspires to help the dreamer” in my sidebar. π
Waiting for Zufan’s last blog post..Results
The Alchemist! Great quote π
Your dogs are beautiful. It’s funny how animals can really brighten one’s life. I left my dog (yorkiepoo) with my mom when my dad passed and she fought me tooth and nail, saying she didn’t want him, the responsibility and such. Now they are inseparable. He really helped my mom pull it together and she is totally in love with him now. It’s so adorable. π
annie’s last blog post..Three Bean Salad
Thanks Annie; I can’t even put into words how happy my dogs make me (most of the time) π So happy your mom has found comfort in Yorkiepoo…with a name like that, who wouldn’t?!
Nice to see Italian dogs love to dig in the garden as much as my Floridian dogs do! π I think my dogs like their fenced in yard the most so they can run free, dig holes, chase squirrels and protect our house from various pedestrians.
The weekend was great but a bit too short!
Mike’s last blog post..Cafe Marmalade Closes its Doors
You know it’s funny that only Stella likes to dig; we joke that Luna is much more “delicate.” Stella is definitely the tomboy of the two of them π
Hope this weekend will be longer for you Mike!
Your dogs and I share a common outlook on life. Most of what is important to me is in their daily routine. I might even like hanging out with papΓ , as long as I didn’t have to cook for that picky one!
Judith in Umbria’s last blog post..Got more zucchine? Sure you do!
Hee hee…I think you could convince him to cook for you π
