1st of the month featured bloggers: august
This month I’ve selected five featured bloggers.
This is because Frances of BlogJem has declared Blog About Five Things Week based on an idea from Ben Yoskovitz based on Problogger Darren Rowse’s Group Writing Project from a while back.
Got that?
[By the way, I participated in the Group Writing Project with Top 5 Italian Words You Don’t Want to Mispronounce. There will soon be a new group writing project at Problogger, so stay tuned!]
OK, so the point is that since I was going to feature a blogger or two anyway today, I thought, why not five?
So here are five of my favorite writing related sites–some about the craft, some by my favorite writers:
1. Burnettiquette by Miami Herald columnist James Burnett. The tagline is “Where common sense meets the news.” Love it! I dare you to go visit him and leave without pondering some great social ill, current event or trend. Simply fabulous.
2. NYC/Caribbean Ragazza. This is a gal who packed up her life in Los Angeles as a Hollywood film exec and moved it to Rome where now she’s collaborating with an Italian screenwriter on a new film. Amazing story, amazing woman. Must read.
3. The Golden Pencil by Anne Wayman. So much excellent advice here for writers from technique to the business end, and lots of great job opportunities posted as well. I’d definitely recommend subscribing if you’re a freelance writer.
4. The (Mis)Adventures of a Single City Chick by Christina Arbini. Christina’s was one of the very first blogs I read, and I cannot wait to read one of her books. Publishers, you listening?! Christina has such enthusiasm and passion for writing (and for life), it’s hard to leave her blog without smiling. Don’t you love that?
5. distraction no. 99 by Nova Ren Suma. Nova writes so honestly and openly about her writing process, rejections *and* acceptances that I feel like I’m right there with her. And thank goodness she lets me be–it’s a wonderful ride.
By the way, if you’re looking to spark creativity, making these “five lists” is a great method. You may even find that you want to expand each one and write a whole post about it. Look! A whole week of posts!
How do you come up with blog post ideas?
Buon weekend!
P.S. Can you believe it’s August already?! Gah!

Aw thanks Frances; I think you’re pretty bloggerific too π
I don’t know about Calabria but, around here it seems to be getting darker about an hour earlier than when we were in Italy in July. Before we know it it will be cold.
From your fingers to God’s ears Gil! Woohoo for the cold! π
Did you and Shelley coordinate this? ha.
Grazie mille cara for the shout out. You know how much I love your blog and your writing.

Yeah can’t believe it is Aug 1st!!!! And as far as blog posts…uh, who knows. I’ll just chalk it up to a creative mind that never rests π I have notes scattered around the house! When an idea hits….I write it down so I don’t forget!!
Happy weekend π
My MΓ©lange’s last blog post..Love Thursday : Raspberry Love

Scarlett & Viaggiatore
Wanderlust Scarlett’s last blog post..Cardinal Rules V
Fun indeed π
Again, some really good links to add to the already way-too-long list of sites I’m interested in. So much good stuff out there. I’m totally backlogged but I always get good writing ideas, or shall I say prompts, from reading what you have to say. I like the five idea.
Have a good weekend.

collette~all over the map’s last blog post..Heaven & Hell
My list is way too long too, but writing ideas are always good, right? Have a lovely weekend as well π
You wrote about all of them so well that I had to open all links in different tabs. I think it is good to blog about everything 5, in this way you can get a lot of topics to write and we shall get a lot of content to read. Wish you good luck. The Golden pencil is on the top for me and I am going to add it in my daily blogs list.
Flusche’s last blog post..GPS Defense Fails in Traffic Court
So glad you enjoyed the links! I wish you the best in your writing ventures as well π
To answer your question: I totally wing it which is painfully evident seeing as my blog is mostly fluff and pictures and more fluff. I do have my moments, though. π But yeah, I’d describe my blog as stream of consciousness marked by little epiphanies about how much I love my ordinary, simple life.
Funny Nino, I don’t see your blog as fluff at all! I *love* how you focus on the simple things…it’s a great reminder for all of us π
Ooh, must go and check them out! They sound great – and the only one I know well is Christina’s blog – great stuff.
As for how do I come up with ideas for blog posts – I don’t, usually the ideas sneak up on me! π
Absolute Vanilla… (& Atyllah)’s last blog post..Vanilla’s PR Agency: Supporting the Little Guys
I hear you…sometimes the ideas won’t leave me alone π
Really delighted to have found you out here in the blog world. It’s been lovely to kick back and read through your blog, following recipes, links and etc …
Di’s last blog post..A ruined home, Oradour-sur-Glane, France
So pleased to have you here Di! Come back often π
I only blog when I’m inspired to, rather than force myself to blog every day. But the hardest bit is that I’m most inspired to blog when we’re travelling, but sadly, because for me travel is work I don’t have time to blog then – when I really want to. And then when I’m not on the road, my job is writing, so I feel so guilty blogging for pleasure.
laradunston’s last blog post..A Tale of Three Tastings in Rome
You are definitely in a unique blogging position, Lara; we’re just happy whenever you do π
Oh wow! Thank you so very much for the mention!
My pleasure Nova π
fabulous!!
