love thursday: care package from mom

Last week, I was surprised by a box from Mom–this one containing our Christmas presents. Yes, she’s on the ball!

An added bonus to the wonderful, warm winter clothes that we are just starting to need was a container of cookies and homemade chocolates. YUM!

Normally I get one of these *after* Christmas, but this time, since Mom had been hired to make cookies and candy a bridal shower, she sent me some of the leftovers:

Tasty as all get out and perfect for Love Thursday!

Happy Love Thursday everyone!

May all your care packages contain sweet, delicious love.

love thursday: bringing home the bacon

You know that saying about bringing home the bacon*?

Well, in Calabria that often happens quite literally.

Here is my amore holding the leg of a certain swine, parts of which were later marinated in red wine vinegar, olive oil, garlic, and rosemary, and then grilled. Yum!

Who could ask for more in a man?

Happy Love Thursday everyone!

Note that Love Thursday is now back at its original Chookooloonks home. Yay!

P.S. The history of this phrase from About.com Guide to Home Cooking: “In the twelfth century, a church in the English town of Dunmow promised a side of bacon to any married man who could swear before the congregation and God that he had not quarreled with his wife for a year and a day. A husband who could bring home the bacon was held in high esteem by the community for his forebearance.”

love thursday: the wandering chopsticks edition

Last week when I put out the call for heart photos for Love Thursday, one of my favorite food bloggers, Wandering Chopsticks, who specializes in Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine, responded in a big way. Below is a collage of some of the best Wandering Chopsticks heart photos with links to the corresponding posts (including recipes!) at the bottom.

Does this make up for no What’s Cooking Wednesday this week or what?! Please *do* check out the recipes and the rest of this fabulous blog!

And now, food is love:

love thursday: the guest waterlily heart

Like many of you,  I suspect, I’ve loved waterlilies ever since the first time I saw paintings by Claude Monet.

So imagine my delight when this gorgeous photo showed up in my inbox, sent by Marnie of Country Fried Stitches:

Marnie wanted to share this image of love, “the heart-shaped leaf pointing to the waterlily,” with all of you and kindly granted permission for me to use it here.

Which leads me to this:

If any of you have blogs but don’t do Love Thursday *or* don’t have blogs at all but still want to spread the love, please send your heart photos and images of love to me here, and I’ll publish them with your permission.

Thank so much Marnie, and Happy Love Thursday to all!

love thursday: autumn love blooms

Even in Calabria we have falling leaves and some gorgeous autumn colors (albeit later in the season), but not everything is dying off right now.

This little group of hearts blooms along the path I walk several times a day with the pooches:

And they make me smile every time.

What makes you smile each and every time you see it (or him or her)?

Happy Love Thursday everyone!
