no cooking today–
mom’s here!

If you’re looking for What’s Cooking Wednesday, tune in Friday when I’ll be hosting La Buona Cucina Americana . . . and making something American with my mom! She’s here! Woohoo!

But for now, can I interest you in seeing our very first homegrown artichoke? It’s a cross between a normal artichoke and the wild kind, thus the interesting spiky look.

Can you see an unwanted guest? Look closely!

Our first homegrown artichoke and unwanted guest on Flickr

Enjoy your Wednesday my peeps!

Hurray, have a wonderful time with your Mom!
Sometimes I have fantasies about having a garden, then I remember that I am incapable of
taking care of green things, there is a picture of me in every florists in Milan with the words
*DO NOT SELL ANYTHING TO THIS WOMAN* in four languages written right across my forehead!

Booooo to the skeeters! This artichoke is truly something special; I’ve never seen one like this before either, actually; a friend of P’s gave him this hybrid to plant this year. Isn’t it adorable?

  12. 06.11.2008

    – K

Yup, safe and sound…now when are you booking *your* flights?!

  15. 06.11.2008

Have fun with your mom! Are you going to tell us what to do with an artichoke when you come back? Or am I just supposed to know that? πŸ™‚

Stefanie’s last blog post..I’m not dead

Well no, I don’t think this is one of the basic things everyone should know. To be honest (this is top secret!), I’m not a huge fan of all the work you need to do before you get to something good with artichokes. But when someone else makes them, they are rather delicious. I posted a recipe a while back (that I’m too lazy to look up now) for Pasta with artichokes and eggs…*that* is tasty and unique πŸ™‚

  16. 06.11.2008

Have a great time with your mum! How nice for you that she is there, and for quite some time too.
P.S Nice artichokes too – I’ve never a seen a ‘wild’ one before!
