taking the party to the beach

Don’t forget that all this week is The Ultimate Blog Party!
Check out 5 minutes for mom to learn more about
how you can participate–everyone’s invited!

The weather is absolutely gorgeous today, so I took my first trip to the beach in a long while. I’m not one to spend hours under the sun in the summer, but on days like this, there’s no better place in the world.

Of course, I ran into P’s parents on the way and they kept trying to convince me to get in the car so they could take me home (probably feeding me something first). Mamma asked me where I had been, why I had gone down to the Marina (the part of the village on the sea), so I told her the truth.

Nowhere and to do nothing.

The health care clinic? Nope.

The market? Neanche.

They just don’t get the crazy Americana who wanted to wander around the Marina with my camera for an hour or so.

But I know *you* do.

Shall we?

Turned out it was just Giuseppe and me.
I didn’t know him before today, but he told me that he usually
walks the beach with P’s Zio Antonio.Welcome to life in a small town folks.

Some fishing nets secured on the rocks.

And a final shot of Giuseppe as I made my way back to dry land.

When I got back home, I felt refreshed, energized, and so very alive, and as I write this a few hours later, my face is still warm with Calabrian sun.

I may have to make this a regular thing.

    La dolce vita, indeed.

I have to drive two hours to get to an ocean, and once I’m there, my senses are assaulted by sweaty, loud, sand kicking sloths who inevitably sit right next to me and my family.

I am positively pea green with envy as I look at your photos.

    I enjoy your blog!

Loved your pictures!!! I’m so tired of snow out here in cold wintery Canada that I just needed a dose of your sunshine. It’s my dream to be in Italy for an extended period of time one day. Been there once and I loved it, it kind of becomes part of you, doesn’t it? Lucky, lucky girl!!!

Hey there – thanks for the book recommendation on my blog – I will definetly look that up soon. You mentioned that you’ve been meaning to read “Eat, Pray, Love” – and then I come to your blog and find you’re living in Italy! Now you MUST read it. 🙂

I lived in Suisse for a year and traveled to Italy as often as I could – what a gorgeous country and culture. I’m jealous. I suppose we aren’t close enough yet for me to schedule a visit? (don’t worry, I’m joking)

Stop by again if you can – I definetly will.

Hey, the manuscript counter is back! I’m so glad to see it. That beach looks like the perfect place to sit down with a moleskine and a pretty pen. Especially if it clears the cobwebs out of your mind like you said. Beautiful photos! Keep them coming. Oh, and ask P’s parents if they want to adopt me. I’m always hungry and sometimes need a ride home 🙂

I just read through the other comments and you MUST read Eat, Pray, Love. It was delightful. Besides, the first sentence is: “I wish Giovanni would kiss me.” A first sentence that fun is almost a guarantee (well, not really, but it should be). Frankly, I wish Giovanni would kiss me too. Love the blog (!) and seriously, ask P’s parents about that thing we talked about (the food? the ride home?) – – – Much Love, A

You are so lucky to have a beautiful place all to yourself in winter sunshine!
I do so miss the long long walks at our beach house in Australia in the morning and evenings. Positano is more for sitting than for walking as it takes only about 5 minutes to get from one end of the beach to the other!

It’s pretty nice in Rome these days too. Unfortunately, I cannot walk to the beach.

Oh that sounds wonderful. How I long for spring!

I too walked along the beach yesterday, but it was blowing near gale-force winds, so the effect wasn’t quite the same. It was rather dramatic though.

    Stunning photos!

My boyfriend told me that Italians think that those who walk alone are crazy. I told him that’s an absurd conclusion to make just because someone is walking by themselves. It’s done all the time here and no one thinks anyone is crazy for doing that. lol

    That doesn’t surprise me…but I always walk alone, so….
