Ex-Rich Girl Tells All by Kami Corban
Ex-Rich Girl Tells All: My Truth Behind Closed Doors by Kami Corban is a gritty, brutally honest memoir of a woman who has battled various demons throughout her life despite, or perhaps because of, her family’s wealth.
As the title implies, Corban was born into a well-to-do family, but this book is not full of rich girl exploits like those of certain reality television stars famous for being famous; instead, Corban recounts her lifetime search for love, happiness, and acceptance through some quite traumatic and even horrifying experiences.
Corban’s writing style is succinct, raw, and even detached; the narrative moves quickly, almost too quickly in some parts as if Corban just wanted to get all this out and over with (and who could blame her?). Though there isn’t much touchy-feely reflection on how Corban has absorbed the experiences in her life, the book still worked for me. With each passing page, I wanted to learn more and more about Corban even if the book read more like a case study than a memoir at times.
Indeed, even without an emotional connection with the author, I found myself rooting for Corban and hoping that she has found some happiness and satisfaction in having worked so hard to overcome a difficult past.
Make no mistake, this isn’t a feel good memoir that wraps up with a happily-ever-after ending, but if you want a real, down to earth read about a real person’s life, I do recommend this book.
