*The original version read “Wake me in time for dinner,” but I realized (through the help of commenters) that it sounded like I was referring to these cuties as dinner. Well, truth be told, someday they will be in all likelihood (sorry for those offended, but it’s the way of life around here)–but that’s certainly not what I was thinking about when I posted the photos!

    TX, aren’t they just adorable? I wasn’t even thinking about the double meaning in the sense that someday, these poor little ones…oh I can’t bear to think about it either. Re-reading what I wrote now seems so heartless! I just meant to wake me in time *tonight* for dinner–and we’re only having vegetables, I swear! And I only meant that we all need to do what it takes to make us happy. Sheesh πŸ˜‰

    Paolo, I can’t help I’m surrounded by such cuteness! And with the Picasa, geez, you sure you weren’t a woman in your past life with all this nagging? On Camilleri, one of my students gave me this book. She had done a book review for me as an assignment, and when she saw how curious I was about it, she brought it in and gave it to me. It’s awesome, I tell you–I love how there’s Sicilian sprinkled throughout. A real work-out indeed πŸ™‚

    Wellcome to Antonino’s Restaurant:
    Todays Menu!

    Bunnies and olives…

    How to prepare:
    Kill the Rabbit.
    Put in 4 or 5 tablespoons of olive oil in a casserole with onion, salt, green olives,and chili pepper.
    Let the onion become brown and put the rabbit in, preferably break into small pieces. Let the rabbit fry lightly, then cover with red wine.
    When the wine is evaporated you’ll have a delicious rabbit with a delicate sauce.
    Enjoy your lunch!!!

    Yes, maybe I’m horrible but rabbit is very good and this evening I’ll eat the rabbit with olives. The posted recipe isn’t really complete. If you want I’ll translate it and send the original recipe. I’ve seen you’ve a great scort of rabbit and I’ve a lot of recipes if you want I’ll send it to you…
    But the question is:
    Do you have the courage to kill them?
    May I have the P’s mom recipe?

    Antonino, only joking about being horrible, of course, as rabbit is a common dinner in my house too. Do pass along the entire recipe if you find time–Italian is fine. I don’t actually have P’s mom’s recipe, but I do know she uses a lot of peperoncino because man is it spicy! Delicious too! From what my taste buds say, I’m guessing it’s olive oil, garlic, white wine vinegar, peperoncino and salt, but she has yet to share it. We often use the oily juice then with pasta, and it’s so good!

    Anyway, no, I most certainly do not do the dirty work. I’m not that Calabrianified just yet πŸ˜‰

    You have my sympathy (seriously) that you’re not in an environment where goofy pop-culture references like that are understood.

    P with Elmer Fudd might be like me with Camilleri – I get the humour intellectually, but I don’t get the belly laugh my letteratura teacher got.

    Still and all, I am prepared to seem humourless if I can just live in a culture where they have caffΓ¨ corretto…

    TheOG, lucky for you, P wants to get ducks now too! We’re going to have a full-fledged farm before we know it…and I’m going to have all kinds of Looney Tunes references running through my mind ALL THE TIME and have no one to appreciate them (in person). We already have roosters you know, so I’m always thinking about the chickenhawk and Foghorn Leghorn: “Well, I’ll be, well IIIII’ll be!”

    Elizabeth, I’m trying to convince P to let me keep just one of them at the house with us, but it’s not going well. We have one small one, she’s of a smaller breed than the rest because someone gave her to us, and P named her Rosina. How could we possibly eat something called Rosina???

    I absolutely LOVE the little one taking his first steps. The color of his fur is beautiful. We had a nest of bunnies burrowed in the ground last year and every day I would check on them to see how they had grown. It was something to look forward to in the mornings.
