Bloodstone by Barbra Annino

Bloodstone by Barbra AnninoBloodstone by Barbra Annino is the second book in the Stacy Justice Mystery Series, picking up where the first book, Opal Fire, left off — and once again, Annino expertly weaves a bewitching tale of mystery, intrigue, and family secrets with a good dose of humor to boot.

Bloodstone begins as Stacy’s allegedly long-lost sister shows up with news that their mother is in danger. Stacy needs to get out from under her aunts’ watchful eyes, so she and her sister move camp to her ex-boyfriend’s place; she soon realizes, though, that no matter where she is, she’s in danger, especially after a dead guy shows up in her aunts’ kitchen.

I just love Annino’s writing style and wit; I can’t believe her series hasn’t been picked up by a major publisher yet as her books would stand up more than fine next to Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, which I also enjoy. I give Bloodstone five espresso cups out of five:

5 espresso cups out of five!

Yes, I loved this one even more than the first book in the series, which I thoroughly enjoyed (four espresso cups). For $3.99 for the Kindle version, you can’t go wrong with this title, though I do recommend you check out Opal Fire first just so you’re up to speed on the characters and past action. I’m very much looking forward to the next installment, Tiger’s Eye, set to be released in the spring of 2012.
