So which part of Australia are you from? Interesting isn't it - you meet an Italian and you start - so which part of Italy are you from :)

My aunt and uncle are thinking of coming to Calabria in Sept 2010 and one of the things I keep saying to them is to get an apartment in Tropea and then wander around. They say they will if I go along with them. I would - except I like to walk during my holidays - so I am off to Corsica or at least to doing the Francigena walk originally from Canterbury to Rome. THis sounds like the perfect holiday for them.

Thanks for posting and giving us a mini tour of Calabria! The little round things look like the honey coated fried dough that my Sicilian grandmother used to make. We knew them as "Honey Balls" and the adults called them something like "Pinulatta". The desert in the middle almost looks like the "Honey Ribbons" that my Neapolitan grandmother used to make. Coated in powdered sugar instead of honey.

This sounds like a wonderful enterprise. It would be my dream to do something like this! Not run the tours, but attend one. Maybe some day...

Hey Scintilla...you and Tania are not the only Australians with Calabrian parents (well dad anyway!!)
What an interesting post Michelle - sounds like she has some fantastic ideas and like her I do hope the Calabrian tourism opens up a little more to the masses (not too much...but a little bit more would be good!)

Exactly Leanne...a little bit more but not too much! Is that too much to ask? Haha :)

How interesting! It seems that Tania and myself have a lot in common. Australian with Calabrian parents, Positano, Tropea... Like Tania, I have a mother who was a superb and geniune cook and was just thinking yesterday, that I was so lucky to have been brought up enjoying the wonderful cuisine that cooking schools in Italy nowdays teach their international guests. They are dishes that I've always taken for granted and prepare for my own family.
Her tours sound wonderful.
Good on ya Tania! If I could write this in Calabrian, I would :)

I know Tania also does stuff up in the Positano area as well...perhaps you can meet up someday? :)
