mio amore and me

Lately I’ve gotten a few requests for photos of P from friends and family, so I figured it was time to post another. You can also see another photo of him in my post Amore Mio in case you missed it.

Now here’s the thing. I’m not very good at the holding out the camera in front of us and getting a good photo thing, so nine times out of ten P loses part of his head. And he didn’t help things this time either as he thought the photo was already taken and turned his head before the click.

But I still kind of like it anyway.

Paolo and me
This was taken last Saturday at the Feast of Santa Caterina di Alessandria. Why yes, I do have more photos. Stay tuned!

30 days of thanks

Today I’m thankful for:

P.

Punto e basta.

Actually, I think the problems you mention are what make that picture interesting, resulting in a more unusual and natural composition (since he’s only beginnig to turn, that adds movement while still being in front of the camera).

    You’re a nice couple.

    *Greg, thank you :)

*Robin, thanks, and my glasses? They are about five years old! I still haven’t gotten a new pair….

*Luigi, thanks for your comments; I rather agree with you. Sure you would’ve seen him better had he been looking at the camera, but this way is much more interesting. I definitely have more luck than skill in snapping photos ;)

I hate taking my own photo with my arm stretched out. Nine times out of ten, you can tell that I took it… probably because that sneaky second chin pops out. Eww
If you hadn’t mentioned that you took the photo yourself, I would never have been able to tell. Great job!

I actually like pictures where people aren’t necessarily looking at the camera. When I was dating my last boyfriend, I always wanted a good close-up casual-looking photo of us looking at each other instead of the camera. He thought I was insane.

Off the topic, but something I’ve been wanting to ask you for a while, your blog always loads very, very slowly for me. Do you not have that same problem? (I thought if you’re on dial-up, I’m surprised it isn’t a problem for you.) I don’t always click over from Bloglines to comment because it just takes so long for the page to display. :-( Maybe it’s just me.

What I was going to say has already been said, but I’m going to say it anyway because…well, because.

I love the picture, and it really does have a more “natural” feel than a posed photo would. And the way he’s sort of looking at you, with that “look” in his eyes…you can’t plan that stuff. LOVE IT.

I’m jumping on the bandwagon as well — a very attractive couple. I too dig those glasses of yours (why get new ones?) and I just love that P has pulled his glance.

I had an opposite experience with my boys a few years back. I was taking a shot of them against a big stone wall. I asked them to look off camera in different directions (I thought it would add texture). Instead the youngest looked at the camera while the eldest kept looking off. It turned out to be a great shot, so much better that way. Perhaps accidents aren’t accidents at all.

He face seems narrow, full of interesting angles, yours, soft cures, smooth, your features open. Your smooth, defined shaped glasses, to his beard. His jacket, (from here) tweedy textured, yours soft smooth. I like all these contrasts so close together, so a part of each other.
I notice the interesting shape of his eyes, but it is the interest in your eyes that holds. As he looks away from camera (toward you?), but you look out, meeting the camera with your gaze.

Oh, that’s a beautiful picture. Of course, the way P’s head is cropped and the way he seems to be looking at you, or just past you but from a position very much with you, it does make your face the focal point, but in a very loving and engaging way. I would not have known you took the picture yourself if you had not said so.

All my (past) pics with friends in America were always with full teeth and everyone looking straight into the camera – but here in Italy I notice candid, unfocused, people looking pensive, away from the camera, etc., are not “mistakes” – they are just pictures, and life! This is a good one.

Though we have to meet one day – I have to say every picture I’ve seen of you is completely different from the next so I’m not sure what you in person looks like! :)
