When I was a kid my grandfather got 100 baby chicks every spring. I was my job to feed them. It also became my job to pluck them. I don’t think I ever ate them after that though. I do eat chicken from the store but not very often.

Jenn, that’s exactly what I said to P when he told me

Judith, I keep my distance, which helps. I might go down and see them when they’re all out, but as they grow into real hens/roosters, nope.

Giulia, when P saw that the hen was sitting on some eggs, he whipped up the bucket contraption; she did the rest Glad you like the beans…I was kind of tired of the squares myself. I’m fickle like that.

Gil, you’re right about the eggs; we’re thinking of selling them to tourists

And about the Dukies, I’m actually kind of glad that they’re out of it just for a clean break to start thinking about next year. I don’t follow the whole thing too much any more, but they really seemed to self-destruct toward the end of the year. Incidentally, the whole thing about not making the Sweet Sixteen since ’96? Yup, that was one of the years I was there…and in 95 (my freshman year), they didn’t even make the tourney! That whole Duke Dynasty thing came before and after my years–lucky me
